There are many interesting and powerful freely available software tools suitable among other things for multimedia physics education. We can mention for example scientific software packages for numerical computations providing a universal environment for engineering and scientific applications (Scilab, Octave, ROOT), general purpose computer algebra systems for symbolic and numerical computations (MuPAD, Maxima) and exceptionally powerful visualization frameworks for scientific, engineering and analytical data (OpenDX, NCAR Graphics). Capabilities of some of these systems will be outlined in the presentation.
